Tell Democratic Reps. Sherman, Schneider, Jackson Lee, and Ruiz not to undermine the Biden administration’s goals of diplomacy with Iran. |
Dear friend,
Several members of Congress, including four Democrats, will be speaking this weekend at the “Free Iran” Summit put on by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a group dedicated to sabotaging the Iran nuclear deal. The goal of the summit? To push for regime change in Iran in the middle of talks to reinstate the Iran nuclear deal.
Tell these four Democratic members of Congress to choose peace and skip the summit!
Do you know about the group putting on this summit? It was founded by the People's Mujahedin of Iran (MEK), a violent cult that is maligned in Iran for its support of Saddam Hussein, who during the Iran-Iraq war used chemical weapons against the people of Iran. The MEK is accused of numerous attacks and assassinations, including of U.S. citizens, and of being trained by and working with Israel’s secret service. Until 2012, the MEK was designated a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department.
The NCRI functions as the MEK’s diplomatic wing to advocate for regime change in Iran. Speaker fees for MEK events climb into the tens of thousands and frequent speakers include such hawks as Rudy Guiliani and John Bolton. For a single MEK speaking engagement, Bolton has been paid as high as $40,000. Is this why Democratic Reps. Brad Sherman, Brad Schneider, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Raul Ruiz have all agreed to speak at the NCRI summit this Saturday?
The United States and Iran are currently in the middle of negotiations to reinstate the Iran nuclear deal. If accomplished, some crippling sanctions on Iran would be lifted. The UN Chief has been urging the U.S. to lift sanctions on Iran immediately as they are harming Iranian civilians and have been since Donald Trump left the nuclear deal in 2018. Members of Congress shouldn’t be risking the deal by attending this conference!
Since 2018, Iranians have been the victims of inhumane sanctions by the United States. Rejoining the nuclear deal would mean US diplomacy with Iran is not only necessary but possible. Nothing, and especially not our own members of Congress participating in harmful conferences, should get in our way of rejoining the deal.
