We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” — Abraham Lincoln as quoted in Dan Rather's post yesterday
Daily Practice: Yesterday a candidate for president in couched words threatened the use of guns against a woman; the woman is also running for president. While in Cleveland at the RNC we witnessed verbal abuse of women like I have never experienced, including a group of men who said their mission was to make rape legal. What we allow becomes our culture. What can you do locally to speak up to abuse, bullying and words that are violent? This feels like a time to create a pop up for peace in your community. This isn’t about politics, it is about the fabric of our society. Bring the community you are growing together, including those with different political values. Model the better angels of our nature. Let it spread.
