šŸ’» Empire’s Blueprint: The Monroe Doctrine and U.S. Intervention in Our Hemisphere Webinar

The Monroe Doctrine was first used by the U.S. government to intervene in the political and economic futures of Latin America and the Caribbean under the pretense of protecting the region from European colonization. It became the ideological basis for justifying 200 years of U.S. intervention on behalf of corporate interests and in violation of the right of nations to self-determination. From military invasions and coups to sanctions and media warfare, the doctrine has served as the blueprint for endless intervention.

Hear discussion from historian Steve Ellner, filmmaker Vivien Lesnik Weisman, and analyst Jill Clark-Gollub as they connect this long history of empire to the present-day realities of sanctions, coups, and U.S. military intervention in our hemisphere.

šŸŽ¬ Screening and Discussion of the Film: ā€œMigration made in the USAā€

Forced migration has its causes. While everything is interconnected, some connections must be made clearer. That’s exactly what CODEPINK’s documentary does. It features first-hand testimonies from women from Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, countries that have been heavily impacted by US foreign policy.Ā

Watch back a screening and conversation about the roots of forced migration, the strength of women resisting displacement, and how we can shift U.S. policy from fueling crisis to supporting dignity and peace.

āœšŸ» Pen Pals for Peace Launch!

We are launching Pen Pals Across the Americas: a beautiful new project connecting children in the United States with kids in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.

At a time when politicians build walls and impose sanctions, our kids will build bridges. Through letters, drawings, and stories, they will share their daily lives, dreams, and cultures with one another.

How it works:

  • Parents and teachers sign up here.
  • After signing up, you’ll receive an email with step-by-step instructions, including where to send the letters and drawings.
  • Children will write a letter, create a drawing which will be photographed or scanned and sent by email.
  • Each child will be matched with a partner in Cuba, Nicaragua or Venezuela and will receive a reply.

šŸŽƒ Halloween Flyering!

I.C.E_IS_THE_REAL_MONSTER_THIS_HALLOWEEN!.png

No mask can hide the truth: ICE is the real monster. ICE, a $9 billion machine of fear and violence is terrorizing our neighbors, ripping families apart and locking children in cages, all while private prison corporations and weapons contractors cash in.

Why do people migrate?Ā

U.S. foreign policy creates the very displacement ICE punishes.

  • Military interventions and coups.
  • Sanctions on countries like Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
  • Economic warfare that destroys livelihoods.

This Halloween, take to the streets in costumes exposing ICE as the real monster. Flyer around the neighborhood with facts about ICE’s war on immigrants, U.S sanctions and what a true Good Neighbor Policy could look like.
