“Kids Go to Congress”: Teachers Against Genocide Lead Young Advocates to Capitol Hill with Urgent Call for Ceasefire in Gaza
Children Unite to Advocate for a Ceasefire in Gaza
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Teachers Against Genocide, a grassroots coalition of educators committed to promoting peace and truthful education, is leading a group of children, ranging from toddlers to teens, to visit congressional offices in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, January 24th. This initiative, which is endorsed by the peace group CODEPINK, aims to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza and to call for a halt in funding to Israel.
The young advocates, hailing from the DC metropolitan area and as far as Michigan, are joining forces to make their voices heard on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza. The visit to Capitol Hill serves as a platform for these children to engage with lawmakers and express their concerns about the ongoing genocide.
“We hear from high school teachers who teach about genocides in history that the students ask them ‘Why didn’t anyone do anything to stop it?,’” said Atefeh Rokhvand of Teachers Against Genocide. “That’s why we feel that today, when we see all these children being killed and so much suffering in Gaza, we have an obligation to do something.”
Event Details:
- Date: Wednesday, January 24th at 10am
- Location: Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C.
