The People vs. Fossil Fuels Week of action kicked off today on Indigenous Peoples Day. The mass mobilization was called for by frontline leaders and communities from across the country. I was arrested along with 135+ people, many of whom were Indigenous folks. I between a statue of Andrew Jackson smeared with “Expect Us” in red paint and the White House, a building built by slave labor, was a sea of folks coming together to tell Biden to #BuildBackFossilFree considering we are in a climate emergency. Indigenous people have been resisting the climate crisis in their communities for years and have been resisting colonization for 600+ years.
We are grateful to be part of a week that will be the largest mass mobilization for climate justice in the US with multiple direct actions each day. CODEPINKers from across the country are joining us this week to help make the connections of how militarism fuels the climate crisis. Stay tuned!
