CODEPINK Declares "Daniel Ellsberg Week"

CODEPINK Declares April 24-30 "Daniel Ellsberg Week"

CODEPINK calls on the public to join them in acknowledging April 24-30 as “Daniel Ellsberg Week.” In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg leaked the Pentagon Papers, documenting and exposing decades of lies and mistakes in Vietnam. Fifty-two years later, at 91, Ellsberg faces his latest battle - inoperable cancer. Now more than ever, the country should acknowledge and celebrate his courageous contribution to holding power accountable.

The purpose for “Daniel Ellsberg Week” is to celebrate Ellsberg’s work and to support other whistleblowers and peacemakers while calling on state and local governments around the country to honor the spirit of difficult truth-telling.

CODEPINK will host ‘The Whistleblowers: a Webinar Honoring Daniel Ellsberg’ on Tuesday April 25 from 7-8pm ET. The webinar will feature:

  • Gabriel Shipton, film producer and the brother of WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange.

  • John Kiriakou, former CIA officer, former senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and former counterterrorism consultant for ABC News. Kiriakou blew the whistle on the CIA’s torture program.

  • Jesselyn Radack, an American national security and human rights attorney known for her defense of whistleblowers, journalists, and hacktivist, including Daniel Hale.

“The anti-war movement stands on the shoulders of whistleblowers who, at great personal risk, told the public the truth about what the U.S. military did and is currently doing. Daniel Ellsberg dedicated the rest of his life to raising the concerns of nuclear war and being in solidarity with other whistleblowers.” said Danaka Katovich, CODEPINK’s National Co-Director, “We join the peace movement in declaring it Dan Ellsberg week. We honor him, and call for the freedom of Daniel Hale, Julian Assange, and others.”

People can register for the webinar here: https://www.codepink.org/danielellsbergweek
