We just got through the last attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar falsely accusing her anti-semitism for criticizing the influence AIPAC has on Congress. Now, after Ilhan spoke at a CODEPINK supported event last week, House Democratic leaders — her own party — are voting on a resolution tomorrow condemning anti-semitism in response to what she said.
Send a message now to your representative telling them to vote no on the resolution in response to Omar’s speech. Criticism of AIPAC is not anti-semitic and calling for Congress not to have allegiances to foreign countries (Israel) is not anti-semitic, but targeting the first black Muslim member of Congress with false accusations of antisemitism IS Islamophobic!
We were there at the talk by Rep. Omar and have the transcript. Here is what she said: “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”
Remember during Trump’s government shutdown when Senators Rubio and McConnell introduced legislation — the first legislation of 2019 — to prevent criticism of Israel, at the cost of the First Amendment? Well, that’s exactly what Rep. Omar was talking about and we’re glad she said it!
Will you send an email now to your representative telling them to vote NO on the resolution in response to Rep. Omar’s right on target language? You can also call their office. The capital switchboard (202) 224-3121 number is and below are a few tips on what to say:
Here are a few tips on what to say:
- I'm calling to express my support for Rep. Ilhan Omar and condemn the outrageous act of introducing a resolution about anti-semitism in response to her criticism of Israel.
- This resolution is not being introduced out of a genuine concern for anti-semitism, it’s about attacking Omar for her criticism of Israel.
- I am concerned about the rise of white nationalism, Islamophobia and racist attacks targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar.
In the midst of all of this, a vile racist poster associating Rep. Ilhan Omar with the 9/11 attacks was found last Friday at a public gathering in the West Virginia statehouse! Yet, rather than expressing an enormous condemnation of that, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Rep. Ted Deutch are spending their time falsely accusing Rep. Omar of anti-semitism.
We know who our allies and champions are, and we will not allow Rep. Ilhan Omar’s voice to be silenced as she speaks out for Palestinian rights, an end to the war on Yemen, and against the U.S. orchestrated coup on Venezuela. Please contact your representative now and tell them to vote no on the resolution to condemn Ilhan Omar.
In solidarity with Ilhan,
Ann, Ariel, Carley, Caroline, Jodie, Kelly, Kirsten, Lily, Maya, Mark, Medea, Nancy, Paki, Ryan, Sarah, Tighe and Ursula
