CODEPINK condemns the recent seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s airplane by the United States in the Dominican Republic. This aggressive action, justified under the guise of sanctions enforcement, is yet another example of the harmful and counterproductive nature of U.S. interventionist policies in Latin America.
The ongoing imposition of unilateral sanctions and the escalation of punitive measures only deepen the suffering of the Venezuelan people, exacerbating the economic crisis in the country. These actions undermine any prospects for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic solutions, further isolating Venezuela and pushing it toward greater instability.
We call on the U.S. government to end its coercive tactics against Venezuela, lift the sanctions that have only served to harm the most vulnerable, and respect the sovereignty of nations.
It is time to replace the failed strategy of intervention with one that promotes peace, stability, and genuine dialogue, allowing the Venezuelan people to determine their own future without outside interference.
