CODEPINK and Allies to Mark 25th Anniversary of 'Global War on Terror' with Day of Action in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. --CODEPINK, Military Families Speak Out, Fellowship of Reconciliation, NIAC, and About Face will convene a Day of Action in Washington, D.C., on September 15. The Day of Action comes as Congress returns and as the world reflects on the 25th anniversary of the 'Global War on Terror.' The coalition of peace organizations aims to highlight the deadly and costly consequences of the past 25 years, address how we are still living with the fallout today, and advocate for a shift toward peace and diplomacy.
The day will feature a series of events designed to engage the public and policymakers in discussions about the mistakes made in the past quarter-century of military interventions.
Schedule of events:
- 10 am: Lobby Congress; participants will meet in the Rayburn Building Cafeteria
- 2 pm: "All Out Against War," rally at the corner of Independence Ave SE and New Jersey Ave SE
- 6 pm: Earth's Greatest Enemy screening at Lamont Plaza
The purpose of the day is to reflect on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and the subsequent "War on Terror." It will address the enduring impacts of prolonged military engagements, surveillance, and domestic and international policies on global and national landscapes.
Earth's Greatest Enemy is a documentary exposé of the world's biggest and most unaccountable polluter: the US military. The screening will allow the public to learn about the environmental cost of US militarism and imperialism. There will be a community discussion post-screening.
The coalition's efforts are part of a broader movement to hold policymakers accountable for decisions that lead to the death and destruction of tens of millions of people globally and to advocate for a foreign policy grounded in human rights and international cooperation.
