CODEPINK and Allies to Take Action at Travis AFB in Protest Against U.S. Wars
Fairfield, CA— CODEPINK, alongside allied organizations, is set to attempt to shut down Travis Air Force Base for a third time. This action, scheduled for February 24, 2024, coincides with the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine and is part of the International Global Day of Action against the U.S. War Machine. Simultaneous protests will take place in Italy, Japan and elsewhere, led by international labor organizers.
The Shut Down Travis coalition uses persistent nonviolent action to send a message to those in power that "business as usual" cannot persist while taxpayer dollars fund genocide and support the United States Military's imperial agenda. Travis Air Force Base is actively transporting U.S. weapons and other military aid to Israel to assist the genocide. This month CODEPINK is joining activists worldwide and locally to collectively challenge the status quo.
The event begins at 9 am on Saturday, February 24, at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, with a convergence and rally at the Main Gate, at the intersection of Air Base Parkway and Parker Rd, Fairfield, CA.
This nonviolent protest serves as a poignant reminder of the United States' complicity in global atrocities. It aims to spotlight the urgent need to end support for military operations that perpetuate genocide, violence, and suffering around the world.
Additionally, the Travis 14 and Travis 5, who were arrested on December 28 and Feb. 7, respectively, for obstructing gate entrances to Stop U.S. Weapons for Genocide will be available for interviews.
While the U.S. Congress is trying to pass a military funding super bill to support genocide in Gaza, a forever war in Ukraine, further militarization of our border, and increased hostilities towards China, this event comes at a critical moment for grassroots activists and labor organizers to unite in solidarity against militarism and oppression.
“Our shared rallying cries will include ‘No more funding for genocide and forever wars; Fund human needs now’ and ‘Send Food to Gaza, not Weapons to Israel.’ Just 3% of the US military budget could end world starvation. While the majority of Gazans are displaced, facing severe starvation and death, our tax money funds an obscene military budget that exacerbates their extreme suffering. This has got to stop.” says CODEPINK organizer, Toby Blomé.
