CODEPINK's Sonoma County and Bay Area Chapters to Join Brass Liberation Orchestra for "Fly 100 Kites for Palestine!" Event
SAN FRANCISCO -- CODEPINK's Sonoma County and Bay Area chapters, with special guest CODEPINK Co-Founder Jodie Evans, are joining Vigil 4 Gaza, other peace organizations and the Brass Liberation Orchestra for a "Fly 100 Kites for Palestine!" action on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Crissy Field in San Francisco. The gathering aims to raise $10,000 for the Gaza Soup Kitchen, a grassroots organization providing essential meals to Palestinians in Gaza. This is the same group that Macklemore decided to donate part of his $1,000,000 to after being fired by musician Ed Sheeran last week for saying “Free Palestine” on stage.
The flying of kites will be a show of solidarity with children in Palestine who have recently been denied the freedom to fly them. Funds raised through donations help support these children and their families in Gaza as they still struggle to secure food and shelter.
The event will feature 100 kites flying with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, plus a human banner shaped like a giant kite adorned with Palestinian flags; a drone videographer will film the image from the air. Attendees can also create and decorate their own kites. Organizers suggest attendees donate $5 to $50 for the kites. All proceeds will support the Gaza Soup Kitchen's mission. The Gaza Soup Kitchen was founded in early 2024 and operates multiple kitchen sites across Gaza, serving thousands of meals daily. It is a lifeline for Gazans.
"We will joyfully participate in traditional Palestinian children's kite flying as a fundraiser for Gaza Soup Kitchen, to send hope and love to kids in Palestine," said Cynthia Papermaster, a long-time CODEPINK organizer. "Putting 100 kites in the air and making a human banner of a giant kite with Palestinian colors of red, green, black, and white, with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, will make beautiful images to share worldwide, symbolizing our strong Northern California support for Palestine. We cherish Gaza’s children and want them to have hope."
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own kites, borrow one provided at the event, or create one on-site.
