Tell President Biden to declare a climate emergency! |
We’re in an emergency, and it’s time for President Biden to act like it.
The deadly heat waves of the past week demonstrate that climate action is long overdue. Instead of taking rapid action on a Just Transition to a clean energy economy, President Biden is begging the warmongering Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia for more oil.
Act now and demand Biden call an emergency for the planet now instead of fueling more wars.
If Biden declares a climate emergency under the National Emergencies Act, he won’t have to wait for Congress to take action. With a stroke of a pen, Biden can halt new fossil fuel production and make rapid investments in clean energy projects.
Some people may say that declaring an emergency would be an overstep of Biden’s executive powers, but 1.5°C of global warming is right around the corner.
War is deeply linked to the climate crisis: oil is the leading cause of interstate war and the U.S. military is the largest industrial producer of greenhouse gasses. Biden’s friendliness with Saudi Arabia, a country committing countless human rights atrocities in a genocidal war on Yemen, is inexcusable. Biden excuses it all for oil. Transitioning to clean energy is the best way to create a more peaceful world.
To learn more about how militarism and war drive climate chaos, join us on August 6th, 3-5pm EST, online or in-person at The People’s Forum in New York City.
Speakers include Vijay Prashad, Todd Miller, Greta Zarro, and Abby Martin. Representatives from our partner organizations will share how you can engage locally and nationally.
Tell Biden to declare a climate emergency and join us on August 6th!
