Help Us Raise $50,000 for Victims of Cuba’s Disastrous Fire! |
Dear Friend,
On Friday, August 5, in the province of Matanzas, Cuba, lightning struck an oil tank in Cuba’s largest oil storage facility. This led to a tremendous explosion and an uncontrolled fire that resulted in dozens of people injured, some in critical condition, and in the evacuation of hundreds of Cuban families from their homes. This tragedy also has immediate repercussions for the entire population in that province, since it affects their electricity supply and health facilities.
Help us raise $50,000 today so we can help our friends and families in Cuba recover from this tragic incident. Any donation, no matter the amount, is much appreciated.
Cuba has consistently provided medical and other assistance when the world has needed it, most recently during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now our turn to show solidarity with the people of Cuba in this time of need. Your donation will be used to purchase medicines, medical supplies, as well as other resources to help the people of Matanzas.
Unfortunately, U.S. sanctions on Cuba are the worst of fires! It is not easy for organizations to provide assistance to the island. Many organizations cannot afford the costs of expensive lawyers and the long, cumbersome processes required in order to provide urgent assistance to Cuba. Also, Cuba’s inclusion in the State Sponsor of Terrorism List means that banks, in both the United States and abroad, are reluctant to process humanitarian donations.
That is why we have joined forces with Puentes de Amor, The People’s Forum, IFCO Pastors for Peace, NNOC and others, to collect funds to purchase medicines and medical supplies, as well as resources to help the victims of this disastrous fire—and to fight against the blockade. So If you haven’t done so already, please join us in urging Biden take Cuba off the State Sponsor of Terrorism list!
