A Local Peace Economy

Through our decades of anti-war organizing, we learned something important: we’re not going to end war until we end the war economy. War serves the war economy. As we protest, scratch at the halls of power, and expose the violence of the U.S. war machine, we must also be creating the world we want to live in. We can do that by cultivating the local peace economy in our communities.

CODEPINK is here to support you on your local peace economy journey. We’ve created several tools you can use as you take back your life from the war economy. The peace economy website and The Local Peace Economy Workbook are great places to start and are meant to be used together.

Below you’ll find several other resources, including our bi-weekly Local Peace Economy Community Calls and Local Peace Economy webinars. If you have questions about any of these resources or need support growing a local peace economy project in your community, please reach out to us at [email protected] — we’re here to help!

Episode 329: War Economy vs. Peace Economy: Lessons from Venezuela and the Fight for Our Future

In this episode of CODEPINK Radio, CODEPINK co-founder Jodie Evans breaks down how the U.S. war economy shapes our politics, our culture, and our daily lives while offering a clear path toward building a peace economy rooted in care and community. Later on the show, Michelle Ellner connects these ideas to Venezuela, where communes and social programs have helped restore dignity to people long made invisible. As Washington pushes the region toward another conflict, despite 70% of Americans opposing a war with Venezuela, we explore what it means to resist the war economy and strengthen the movements creating a future based on sovereignty, connection, and collective well-being.
