Palestinian Women and Allies Urge Women Senators to Call for Ceasefire in Gaza
WASHINGTON, DC - The American Palestinian Women’s Association and CODEPINK: Women for Peace are joining forces to hold an urgent gathering in the Senate and to visit the offices of women Senators, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The event will take place on Thursday, November 16, from 1 pm to 3 pm. They will gather in the lobby of the Senate Hart Building, located at 120 Constitution Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002, and then visit Senate offices.
During the gathering, participants will read desperate messages from women and children of Gaza, as well as letters and poems from U.S. women. The aim is to create a powerful connection and increase the urgency for stopping the bombings and stopping U.S. support for Israeli war crimes.
As part of their efforts, representatives from the American Palestinian Women’s Association and CODEPINK: Women for Peace will visit the offices of women Senators. In each office, they will deliver crucial information about the plight of the people in Gaza, with a specific focus on women and children. To emphasize the devastating loss of life, the group will deliver a binder with the names and photos of the children killed. This is so Senators understand that the over 4,100 children who have tragically lost their lives due to the Israeli attacks are not just a number. Additionally, a heartfelt song dedicated to the women of Gaza will be sung in each office.
The primary objective of this gathering and visits to the Senators' offices is to urge the Senators to take immediate action and call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The American Palestinian Women’s Association and CODEPINK: Women for Peace firmly believe that, for the sake of the children, it is crucial to put an immediate end to the violence and suffering in Gaza.
Visuals will include symbolic babies and dolls, and bloody sheets.
