CODEPINK Chapters Nationwide Plan "One Year of Genocide, One Year of Resistance" Days of Action As Israel Escalates Violence Across the Region
NATIONWIDE - This October marks one year since the genocide in Gaza began, bringing mass displacement, death, starvation, and other unimaginable horrors to the people of Palestine. Despite growing calls for peace, the U.S. has refused to hold Israel accountable. Instead, they have allowed Israel to continue its violence beyond Gaza and into the West Bank, Syria, Yemen, and now Lebanon. In attacks where most of the victims are civilians, we are witnessing state-sponsored terrorism carried out by one of the most advanced militaries in the world.
Answering a call for a global action, CODEPINK chapters are mobilizing to demand justice, organizing vigils, marches, and rallies in cities across Illinois, California, Texas, Wisconsin, Nevada, Washington D.C., and abroad in London, England, and Toronto, Canada. For a complete list of events, visit codepink.org/oneyear.
The atrocities in Gaza are undeniable:
- Israeli airstrikes, armed by the U.S., have targeted 16 schools used as shelters, killing 217 Palestinians, including women and children who were simply seeking safe shelter.
- Since October 7th, Israel has killed approximately 1.8% of Gaza's population, with nearly 24% of the dead being youth.
- Over 40,000 people have been confirmed dead, with an estimated 10,000 still buried under rubble. However, that death toll is likely unreliable given the inability of Gaza's Health Ministry to operate under constant bombardment. According to a UN expert, the death toll could rise to 335,500 by the end of the year,
- Famine from the blockade has already claimed 34 lives, and 3,500 children are at risk of dying from malnutrition.
These crimes against humanity, funded by U.S. taxpayers, must end.
CODEPINK calls for an immediate ceasefire, an arms embargo on Israel, and an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine. Peace cannot come without justice, and the U.S. must stop enabling the injustices which Israel has perpetrated against the Palestinian people for the past 76 years. This is a fight for humanity.
