CODEPINK World Court Team to Protest Germany’s Complicity in Genocide
NEW YORK CITY–CODEPINK’s World Court Campaign at the United Nations will protest outside the German Mission to the United Nations in New York City to demand Germany stop arming Israel's lawless assault and starvation of the Palestinian people. The event will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by a march to the EU UN Mission, where activists will demand suspension of the EU’s bilateral Association Agreement with Israel as well as sanctions against Israeli officials responsible for grave crimes against the Geneva Conventions and other International Humanitarian Law, such as the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.
Date: November 22, 2024
Time: Noon-2pm ET
Location: Outside the German Mission to the United Nations, New York City
March to: EU UN Mission
The rally is part of CODEPINK’s World Court Campaign, which seeks to hold governments–chief among them the United States– accountable for their role in the ongoing violation of international law and human rights law. In particular, the campaign calls on Germany, which supplies 30% of Israel’s arms, to cease its support of Israel's unlawful and immoral collective punishment of the Palestinians, which includes flouting of World Court orders intended to protect Palestinians as a group.
Robert Jereski, volunteer with UN Mission Outreach Project: “We are here to support and express gratitude to German activists and the majority of the world’s populations which demand an end to Israel’s wanton murder and starvation of Palestinians. Out-going German Chancellor Scholz has supported Israel regardless of its use of food as a weapon of war. Israel loudly proclaims itself above the laws of war and international order that are meant to protect the world from the scourge of war. Palestinians are collectively punished, with the Israeli military bombing school, hospitals, and razing Gaza to the ground.”
Members of CODEPINK’s World Court Campaign assert that Germany, like the United States, must take a stand for world peace and human decency by enforcing international law, particularly in regard to the grave violations of the Geneva Conventions and other Humanitarian Law instruments. The rally will call for sanctions against Israel and a commitment to end the trade and arming of countries responsible for serious breaches of these laws that has led to the genocide in Gaza.
Nadia, volunteer with UN Mission Outreach Project: "We are inspired and deeply grateful to the brave German activists who are protesting the German government's trade activities with Israel and who were assaulted by police for protesting the German government’s complicity with war crimes. Germany’s ongoing trade with Israel is supporting their military operations and enabling the genocide Israel is committing in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon as well as the increasing aggressions against Syria. We are rallying in solidarity with the German citizens pressuring their government to act in accordance with international law."
The event will bring together peace activists, human rights advocates, and those calling for justice and accountability in the Middle East. CODEPINK invites all those concerned about the violations of international law and human rights to attend the rally and join in the march to demand accountability.
Anita, volunteer with UN Mission Outreach Project: “ ‘The whole world is watching’…. as Israel commits genocide with the help of our own country and others. The people of the world do not want the suffering to last another day.”
