EARTHDAY2023 WING

Dance To End The War Economy, NYC!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 12, 2023

Earth Day Rave in the Streets for Climate Justice

Let's Dance To End The War Economy, NYC!

NYC – CODEPINK is partnering with Rave Revolution on April 21st for an Earth Day weekend where people who care about the world we inhabit will join in celebration, rage, and creative catharsis. This groundbreaking event combines innovative electronic music and a music festival ethos with powerful, system-shaking protest!

Rave Revolution has one primary demand which will dismantle the war economy: Dump GDP, and adopt GPI. Genuine Progress Indicator as an economic metric places value on things like education, forest cover, and air quality, and if adopted, would change the conversation on progress in America forever. No longer could weapons contractors or massive new police training facilities be proposed without weighing the horrible costs they impose on people and the planet. If we change how we measure progress in this country, we may actually be able to achieve climate justice.

The event takes place over a four-day period starting April 20 and ending on April 23. The tentative schedule is as follows:

Thursday, April 20th:  “Funeral for the Planet”  4-8pm - Tompkins Sq Park

Friday, April 21st: “Rave for the Planet” 12-10pm - Secret Location

Sunday, April 23rd: “Earth Love Fest” 12-8pm - House of Yes, Brooklyn

Day 1 - Thursday, April 20th 4-8pm:   “Funeral for the Planet” a large scale art piece procession along with different youth artist/activist collectives beginning at Tompkins Sq Park and carrying coffins with a large globe inside, mourning what will happen to the earth if we do not make any changes at this time; also mourning the decisions that are being made for us that we do not have agency over and are leading to the extinction of human and non-human life on earth.

Day 2 - Friday, April 21st 12-10pm:  “Rave for the Planet” Convening first at the Natural History Museum engaging with the youth and families for a full day of art programming, speeches and discussions with music. Partners include: Amazon Labor Union, Extinction Rebellion, Fridays for Future, House of Yes and many others.

Day 3 - Sunday, April 23rd 12-8pm:  “Earth Love Fest” at House of Yes outside in the street for a full day of programming focused on regeneration and change-making.

Wars and climate collapse will continue as long as the war economy exists. Our profit-driven system which considers increased billionaire profits and fossil fuel sales as progress needs to come to an end. Join us in the streets with speakers and organizers across labor, anti-war, and climate movements, and renowned DJs scoring the whole affair for a legendary outdoor dance party.
