Medea Benjamin to Speak At March 4 Gaza Rally in DC

CODEPINK’s Medea Benjamin to Speak at March 4 Gaza Rally Advocating for Ceasefire and Accountability

WASHINGTON, DC - CODEPINK co-founder, Medea Benjamin, will be a featured speaker at the March 4 Gaza Rally, scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024. The event is endorsed by CODEPINK and more than 200 organizations, under the leadership of the American Muslim Task Force for Palestine.

The rally and march address the urgent need for President Biden to secure an immediate ceasefire, stop providing weapons to Israel, and ensure accountability for Israeli officials implicated in crimes against humanity funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars.

CODEPINK has been actively engaged in daily advocacy within the halls of Congress, calling for a ceasefire and an end to the ongoing genocide by Israel. The organization is concurrently running a campaign to encourage global participation in supporting South Africa's charge of genocide against Israel in the International Court of Justice.

Medea Benjamin's speech during the rally will spotlight President Biden's consistent disregard for the 75-year Israeli occupation of Palestine, emphasizing the need for genuine solutions and expressing concern over the unwavering support extended to the oppressor rather than the oppressed.

Medea Benjamin stated, "We are outraged that President Biden and the majority of members of Congress, especially those who take money from the lobby group AIPAC, are supporting Israel’s daily slaughter. But we are heartened by the tidal wave of opposition coming from all quarters–youth, Muslims, Jews, trade unionists, and ordinary people who have never been active before. The rally on Saturday will reflect our diversity, our passion and our determination to change our government’s policy.”

The death toll in Gaza has now surpassed 23,000, with 70% being women and children since October 7. Israel's indiscriminate targeting of innocent civilians and obstruction of access to essential resources, including food, water, and electricity, amounts to genocide. This deliberately barbaric targeting of a defenseless population  is further exacerbated by the unconditional support and funding provided by the United States.

The March 4 Gaza Rally is scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 2024, commencing at 1 pm ET at Freedom Plaza, located at 1325 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20004. The event aims to draw attention to the urgent need for action and accountability in the face of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
