CODEPINK Hunger Strike Peace Activist Demanding a Ceasefire in Gaza Arrested At House Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing
“Nobody is trying to prevent civilian deaths in Gaza!”
WASHINGTON D.C. – On Wednesday, Nov. 8th, CODEPINK member Leslie Angeline, who is currently on a hunger strike for a ceasefire in Gaza, disrupted a House Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing with Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf and Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for the Middle East Dana Stroul. The two were there to testify on U.S. support for Israel amid its current siege and genocide of Gaza.
“10,000 civilians have been killed. Nobody is trying to prevent civilians from being killed in Gaza,” she cried out. “It’s a genocide! It’s slaughter,” she continued.
While on hunger strike, Leslie has visited the offices of numerous congresspeople pleading with them to end this blatant and apparent genocide of innocent Gazans. She is one of many who have spent everyday in the halls of congress trying to appeal to the moral authority of those who are funding and supporting Israel’s brutal and deadly assault on Gaza and its occupation of Palestine.
More than 300,000 people gathered in D.C. on Saturday demanding a ceasefire in Gaza now! Today, congressional staff members walked out in protest against their bosses, who refuse to listen to the 66% of constituents across the country calling on the United States to call for a ceasefire.
