CODEPINK and PCRF-LA Welcome Gaza Teen and Her Mom to the U.S. for Medical Treatment
Los Angeles, CA — CODEPINK, in solidarity with the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF-LA), is honored to welcome Jana, a young girl from Gaza, and her mother to the United States for critical medical treatment. Jana is the first patient to be brought to Los Angeles under PCRF's initiative to address the medical and humanitarian crises facing children living under the current genocide in Gaza.
The welcome event will happen Saturday, July 13 at 5pm PT at LAX.
PCRF is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medical care to children affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. While the specifics of Jana's treatment remain confidential we do know that she is a trauma patient who has experienced amputation.
Unicef has reported that more than 1,000 children underwent leg amputations in just the first month of the genocide alone. It is estimated that on average more than 10 children are losing limbs every day. It is important that patients like Jana, who are coming to the U.S. for treatment, understand that a majority of the U.S. does not support the ongoing genocide that is maiming and killing them.
As part of this effort, a community gathering will be held where Palestinians and supporters will sing the Palestinian National Anthem to greet Jana and her mother. This approach aims to create a soothing and supportive environment, considering the trauma they have endured.
"This event is crucial for demonstrating to Jana and her mother, and to all Palestinians, that they are not alone," said Glo, CODEPINK Southeast LA Chapter organizer.. "We want to show that many people in the United States deeply care about their well-being and do not support the actions taken with our taxes that contribute to their suffering. We stand in solidarity with them and are here to offer love, care, and a sense of community."
CODEPINK organizers will have an art build prior to Jana’s arrival where they plan on making her and her mom a welcome card and care package.
CODEPINK and PCRF-LA invite everyone to join in this heartfelt welcome and show Jana and her mother that they are loved and supported.
