CODEPINK Madison Activists Disrupt Vice President Kamala Harris: Ceasefire NOW!
MADISON, WI – On Wednesday night, CODEPINK Madison activists disrupted Vice President Kamala Harris's second rally this election cycle at Alliant Energy Center, urging her to work for an immediate ceasefire and arms embargo in Gaza. The activists interrupted the rally, underscoring the urgency for peace in Gaza, which cannot wait for the next administration to take action.
Activists held banners that said “NO FUNDING FOR WAR CRIMES” and “FREE PALESTINE” that were snatched by democrats in the audience. One activist had her hair pulled by Harris rally attendees while disrupting, as Harris gave her usual spiel, “We all want a ceasefire and all the hostages out, but right now, I am speaking.”
"Madam Vice President, right now, we are speaking as well. We have made it clear that our community in Wisconsin demands accountability and an immediate ceasefire," commented a CODEPINK Madison spokesperson.
CODEPINK has been mobilizing for over a year to end the U.S.-supported humanitarian crisis in Gaza. CODEPINK Madison’s purpose in disrupting the event was to draw critical attention to the conflict and to communicate that citizens of Madison will not accept silence on this issue. The group strongly opposes Vice President Harris's participation in a concert rally while enabling violence in Gaza.
