CODEPINK to Bring Message of Peace and Justice to the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago
CHICAGO – CODEPINK will bring its antiwar message to the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago from August 18-22. Following a week of anti-war actions at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in July, where the group highlighted issues such as the ongoing crisis in Gaza, reproductive justice, and economic exploitation, CODEPINK is set to continue its campaign for peace and justice at the DNC.
Attendees plan to drive home this message with signature theatrics, including signs, props, and street theater. The group aims to raise awareness and spark conversation about the impacts of war and corruption on everyday Americans with various spontaneous actions throughout the week.
“Our collective pressure is making support for genocide and war politically untenable, and it’s crucial we use the Democratic National Convention to demand more. We have to set a standard in this country — an end to U.S. arms sales to Israel and to stop the U.S. war machine,” explained CODEPINK’s Palestine organizer and Chicago resident.
The organization will bring a large contingent to Chicago, representing CODEPINK chapters nationwide, including D.C., North Dakota, Florida, Los Angeles, and a car caravan from San Francisco. Events scheduled for the DNC include:
Current Schedule:
-
Sunday, August 18 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm CT: Bodies Outside of Unjust Laws: Pre-DNC March at Michigan Ave & Wabash
-
Monday, August 19 at 12pm CT: March On The DNC Coalition March/Rally at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St.
-
Wednesday, August 21 at 3:30pm CT: ALL OUT TO CHICAGO: Shut the DNC DOWN! March at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St.
-
Thursday, August 22 at 5pm CT: March On The DNC Coalition March/Rally at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St.
In the past, CODEPINK has disrupted the business-as-usual proceedings at the DNC, drawing attention to the Democrat's war agenda. This year's message echoes those of years past: War criminals are not welcome here. Corruption and politicians bought by foreign governments and weapons companies are not welcome here.
