CODEPINK, America Without Sanctions and Allies Host Press Conference with Defenders of Cuba and International Solidarity

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following the September 2, 2026 Congressional Hearing on “Breaking the Blockade: Reassessing the Moral and Legal Failures of U.S.-Cuba Policy,” there will be a press conference with three of the panelists:

  • Felix Sharpe Caballero, a Cuban-American living in Detroit, who is in daily contact with family and friends from the eastern end of the island to Havana.
  • Attorney Suzanne Adely, President of the National Lawyers Guild, the oldest and largest progressive legal association in the U.S., and a member of the Bureau of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers, an international legal association with United Nations consultative status.
  • Rev. Dr. Richard Allen Turner, Pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, Maryland, and recently returned from Cuba.

WHEN: 5:00 pm, Wednesday, September 2, 2026

WHERE: 525 Newton Street, NW, Washington, DC.

The panelists will also be joined by:

  • Jacqueline Luqmon, Chair of the Coordinating Committee of the Black Alliance for Peace
  • Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODEPINK

Recent escalations to U.S. economic warfare on Cuba have provoked a humanitarian crisis, including lack of fuel, food, and healthcare, leading to increased infant mortality and unnecessary human suffering. All speakers have in-depth knowledge of the humanitarian impacts of the 64-year-long U.S. blockade of Cuba, the longest siege in modern history, and are working to end this criminal policy. While the US administration imposes collective punishment on the Cuban people, it also seeks to criminalize dissent and international solidarity. These organizations are coming together to defend Cuba and each other.
