Add your voice and demand that major media outlets report on China’s Report on Human Rights Violations in the United States in 2024. We must demand that the mainstream media hold the U.S. government accountable for how it weaponizes “human rights” while funding violence, exploiting global populations, and letting corporate interests dictate policy.

To the Editors and Newsrooms of Major Media Outlets:

Last month, China’s State Council released The Report on Human Rights Violations in the United States in 2024. This annual report mirrors the United States’ frequent use of “human rights” rhetoric as a weapon against China, and exposes the hypocrisy of claiming to wage war in the name of human rights while systematically violating them at home and abroad. While U.S. officials cite alleged abuses in China to justify military buildup and preparations for conflict, it also maintains a long record of institutional violence, inequality, and repression, as well as repeated violations of international law.

The report details mass shootings, police brutality, systemic racism, mass incarceration, voter suppression, and the suffering of migrants at the border—all clear evidence that the United States fails to protect even the most basic rights of its own people. Abroad, U.S. wars, unilateral sanctions, and military occupations have caused devastation from the Middle East to Latin America, all while being cloaked in the false banner of “human rights” and “democracy.”

Despite the importance of this report, mainstream U.S. media have largely ignored it. When China is accused of abuses, you run headlines that justify military spending, escalate confrontation, and shape public opinion in ways that echo the lead-up to the Iraq War. When China exposes America’s violations, you remain silent. You are allowing a critical part of the story to be hidden from the public, and you are failing to report on how one-sided coverage of China helps manufacture consent for war.

The report specifically highlights U.S. funding of the genocide in Gaza, “providing unwavering military and diplomatic support to Israel, repeatedly thwarting international efforts to secure a ceasefire.” It also details the humanitarian crises caused by U.S. sanctions around the world. At home, the report exposes how money dominates politics: “money controls U.S. politics” and the manipulators behind big money politics “seek to maximize their own interests,” not the welfare of ordinary people. You cannot ignore these facts.

The hypocrisy of U.S. war buildup is clear. Washington is expanding its military presence in the Pacific, increasing the war budget, and modernizing forces under the pretext of “defending human rights,” even as its own citizens continue to suffer widespread abuses. This obsession with portraying China as a threat is propaganda designed to justify militarism, corporate interests, and geopolitical dominance rather than genuine protection of human rights.

True peace and human rights cannot be achieved through military force and profit-driven agendas. They require transparency, accountability, and international cooperation. You have a responsibility to cover this story and give your audience the full truth about America’s human rights record at home and abroad. Only by exposing this hypocrisy can you help hold power accountable, challenge militarism, and work toward a world where peace and justice come before profit and war.
