On the anniversary of the Shanghai Communique, let's carry on this legacy.

Dear friend,
Fifty-one years ago today, on February 27, 1972, the U.S. and China issued a joint diplomatic statement, the Shanghai Communique of 1972, proclaiming that “there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China.” As we mark this act of diplomacy that has endured for more than half a century, we see China taking another step for diplomacy with its newly proposed framework for peace in Ukraine.
As the death and destruction in Ukraine recently passed the one-year mark, diplomacy is needed more than ever for all people and the planet. Ask President Biden to join China's call for peace in Ukraine!
It was precisely on the grim one-year anniversary of the Ukraine war, February 24, that China proposed a framework to achieve peace in Ukraine. It calls for respect for national sovereignty and a comprehensive ceasefire. It also calls for protection of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and a commitment not to use or threaten the use of nuclear weapons. Finally, the peace plan addresses how the international community can promote peace in Ukraine, including a commitment to increase humanitarian aid to the conflict zones and an end to unilateral sanctions.
While the U.S. is fueling the war with an endless stream of weapons to Ukraine, China wants to end the conflict through peace talks. Tell your members of Congress to stop driving hate towards Asian Americans and stand for peace with China!
Onward to peace,
