CODEPINK Disrupts DNC Event Featuring Sen. Chuck Schumer, Demands Justice for Palestine
CHICAGO — CODEPINK, alongside other pro-Palestine peace activists, disrupted a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event sponsored by Axios, which featured Senator Chuck Schumer as a speaker. The disrupters were calling for an end to the ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the U.S. government's continued support of Israel's genocide.
Nour Jaghama, CODEPINK's Palestine organizer, took the stage after security forcibly removed other activists. Holding a "Free Palestine" banner, Jaghama demanded an immediate end to the genocide in Gaza, the implementation of an arms embargo on Israel, and the liberation of Palestine.
You can watch the disruption here.
The multiple disruptions caused them to keep Sen. Schumer from actually joining the event making the disruptions successful is stopping business as usual.
Senator Schumer has received $1,725,324 from pro-Israel lobbyists. Not only has he supported a resolution endorsing the violence in Gaza, but he also visited Israel's military command post, witnessing firsthand the ongoing ethnic cleansing. Schumer has joined House Leader Mike Johnson in inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a figure accused of war crimes, to speak before Congress.
As a senator representing one of the largest cities in the world, Schumer has openly stated, "We love Israel in our bones." This statement is particularly egregious as Israel continues to perpetrate violence and forced starvation on the Palestinian people, reducing them to "nothing but bones." Schumer has also controversially implied that opposition to the Gaza genocide from the left is antisemitic, despite significant Jewish advocacy for a ceasefire.
CODEPINK remains steadfast in its commitment to ending U.S. support for Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their fight for freedom and justice.
