Tell the Congressional Progressive Caucus: prioritize climate funding over Pentagon funding in the American Jobs Plan! |
Dear friend,
As we speak, the Biden Administration and Congress are deliberating on the American Jobs Plan, an infrastructure and jobs bill that could determine how we address climate change for years to come.
😠Surprise, surprise-- weapons contractors see this as yet another opportunity to line their pockets. They are lobbying to sneak EVEN MORE funding for the Pentagon into the bill while right-wing pressure threatens to seriously scale back climate funding.
It's time that progressives in Congress take a stand to reject more Pentagon funding and protect the future of our planet!
Representative Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus is right: any infrastructure bill must prioritize addressing climate change, which means making sure it’s not derailed with MORE funding for the Pentagon. Sign your name here to tell the Congressional Progressive Caucus: fund climate programs, not war!
While the American Jobs Plan has the potential to fully fund important infrastructure and jobs programs, we have to remain vigilant.
According to the Security Policy Reform Institute, in 2020 top military contractors received $158.5 billion in contracts from the Pentagon which is over a billion more than the American Jobs Plan would give climate programs annually.
This is unacceptable! We need progressive leaders in Congress to use their power to reject any infrastructure bill that gives more money to the Pentagon and doesn’t take climate change seriously enough. Sign your name to call on the Progressive Caucus to reject more money for the Pentagon and direct more funds to address climate change!
Our planet is at a critical juncture: if we want to mitigate the worst effects of climate change, we need to immediately reverse course by cutting Pentagon funding and fully funding programs to address climate change. While weapons contractors may have lobbyists, we have people power. Let’s use it to demand a future for the next generation!
