CODEPINK Condemns the $95 Billion for War and Genocide
The passage of the $95 billion defense spending package in both the House and the Senate represents a deadly and immoral prioritization of military expenditure over investment in social programs for Americans, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The $26 billion to Israel that claims to include "humanitarian aid" directly supports the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Similarly, the allocation of over $8 billion for military preparations in the Asia Pacific, including assistance for Taiwan, dangerously escalates tensions and increases the risk of conflict with China. Instead of pursuing diplomacy and negotiations in Ukraine, this bill approved over $60 billion to prolong the war in Ukraine further.
This bill reflects a profoundly flawed foreign policy and destructive national security strategy prioritizing militarization, war, and genocide over diplomacy, cooperation, and humanitarian assistance.
Urgent calls for peace are loudly echoing across the country but seem to fall on deaf ears on Capitol Hill. People and the planet desperately need healthcare, housing, and climate justice, not a further descent into darkness through this massive war bill that funds death and destruction.
Every elected official who voted in favor of this bill has blood on their hands.
