Study & Solidarity with Venezuela is an online course and a learning community for anyone who stands against imperial aggression and for the right to self-determination of the Venezuelan people. The Trump administration’s recent assault on Venezuela, kidnapping of President Maduro and extortion of the Venezuelan government is, unfortunately, an escalation of longstanding imperialist aggression towards the Venezuelan people and their Bolivarian Revolution. At stake is a people’s project that prioritizes the common good and the question of sovereignty itself.
This course creates the opportunity for you to join with others in the midst of a critical juncture in U.S. imperialist policy, form a community of concern and engagement, cut through the propaganda that prevents us from understanding and appreciating the Bolivarian Revolution and bolster our ability to take action in solidarity with the Venezuelan people.
The format of the program is an interactive study group, with a curated group of materials (written, audio, video, etc) shared ahead of each live session that the group can then “unpack” together with the support of course facilitators. Study materials will include a variety of sources, and will prioritize Venezuelan perspectives. The course will be facilitated by Eleanor Hancock, Director of Comrades Education, and Juliana Barnet, an anti-imperialist educator with decades of participation in Latin American solidarity movements and close ties to grassroots Venezuelan society. We’ll be joined on Feb 26 by Caracas-based journalist Ricardo Vaz to support our process with his experienced analysis and direct, on-the-ground reporting!
