CODEPINK will hold a Divesting from the War Machine workshop at the annual Veterans for Peace Convention in Spokane, Washington. The workshop will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 1:45 pm in the Spokane Falls Ballroom Suite C. The workshop presenters include Ann Wright, Nancy Mancias, and Maya Rommwatt. To attend the workshop, you must register for the convention at this link: https://www.veteransforpeace.org/2019-annual-convention
The workshop seeks to inform and inspire participants to action through financial pressure on our institutions. Divesting from the war machine is an incipient strategy of the anti-war movement that has support from a broad and growing national coalition. Participants will learn about the multitude of pressure points the divestment campaign is targeting, ranging from municipal funds to university endowments to banks and financial institutions and beyond. We will also explore the need for any Green New Deal to address the extreme pollution (CO2 and other) of the military-industrial complex, and the connections between border security and US imperialism and the companies reaping profits behind it all.
