You answered the call to SHUT IT DOWN on January 30 and May Day 2026. Now we must stay engaged.
The brutality we saw ahead of the first shutdown in January hasn’t stopped or slowed down, it only escalated. Since then, the US started a full-fledged war against Iran. Nearly two hundred children were killed in one strike, on the first day of the war alone. Thousands of people have been killed, gas prices are skyrocketing everywhere, and the Trump Admin’s policies are destroying lives from the U.S. to Cuba to Iran!Â
Throughout history, real change has come when ordinary people collectively withdraw their labor and participation from systems of exploitation. In the anti-war movement, collective action has been a crucial part of successfully resisting U.S. aggression both at home and abroad. The necessity for mass participation, solidarity, and collective courage is why CODEPINK has joined General Strike U.S.
A general strike is when workers, union or non-union in different industries collectively stop working to achieve a common goal. This requires a strong organized community network; several CODEPINK chapters have already begun organizing to educate, inspire and ultimately activatee their communities. Sign up for educational resources, local support networks and updates on the General Strike U.S.!
We, the undersigned, pledge to join all future collective shutdowns in response to US' vicious war against Iran and continued military aggression towards Cuba, Venezuela and its own people in the belly of the beast. We will not go to work, school, or buy anything.Â
Our demands:
- ICE and US Military out of everywhere!
- No New Detention Centers or Military Bases!
- Cut the $1 Trillion War Budget and invest in our communities!
We will continue to take collective shutdown actions until these demands are met.
