When: Feb. 27, 2016 | 10am

Where: Luther Place Memorial Church | 1226 Vermont Avenue NW Washington DC 20005

Washington, DC-- On Saturday, February 27, 2016, the peace and social justice community and Washington residents will gather to remember Concepcion Martin Picciotto, known to many as “Connie,”  long-time keeper of the Anti-Nuclear Vigil in front of the White House.  With others, Concepcion maintained an anti-nuclear vigil for the past 34 years, beginning in 1981.  Concepcion passed away in late January 2016, following a short illness. Her memorial service will be held at Luther Place Memorial Church, 1226 Vermont Ave, NW (Thomas Circle), Washington, DC, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The service will be followed by a procession to Lafayette Park, site of the Anti-Nuclear Vigil, for further reflections and celebration of Concepcion’s life.

The service will include remarks by peace and social justice activists, lawyers and clergy who knew and worked with Concepcion.  It will be led by Rev. Karen Brau, Senior Pastor, and others. Music will be provided by the N Street Village Choir and DC Labor Chorus.

Press and media are welcome to attend and film the service and procession to Lafayette Park. Parking will be available at the Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Ave., NW.
