St. Louis County, we're working to divest our public funds from nuclear weapons!
Join us for our first Divest St. Louis County from Nuclear Weapons open meeting Wednesday, May 11th at 5pm CT on Zoom. Register here for the Zoom link.
St. Louis County is currently investing taxpayer dollars into nuclear weapons through its pension funds. The St. Louis County Retirement Plans are managed by groups that hold direct investments in manufacturers and servicers of nuclear armaments.
The unfolding crisis in Ukraine has highlighted the existential threat that nuclear weapons pose to our community, and all of humanity. The United States and Russia are the two largest nuclear powers in the world, collectively possessing 90% of the world’s nuclear weapons. If the two countries entered into military conflict, they could destroy human civilization in a nuclear holocaust. Despite this, St. Louis County is literally investing our public funds in nuclear weapons, profiting off of the industry that puts humanity at risk.
In light of this global crisis, St. Louis County’s complicity, and the one-year anniversary of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear weapons, we are calling for St. Louis County to divest from all nuclear weapons. Are you interested in joining our efforts? Everybody is welcome, regardless of background - RSVP for more information, and contact [email protected] with any questions.
