From Cuba to Colombia: ¡Viva! CODEPINK Congress Capitol Calling Party

Tuesday, Oct 17 Capitol Calling Party

Join CODEPINK Congress as we educate, activate and mobilize for peace legislation!

There’s trouble in Trump’s bully paradise.

“Latin America will not put up with Trump’s new Monroe Doctrine” and “Trump can’t bully Latin America without consequences” This isn’t the left press speaking; this is “The Atlantic” and “Foreign Policy.”

No, Trump can’t get away with strong-arming Latin America.  Threaten Mexico and Colombia with higher tariffs and guess what? Two can play that insidious game.

Join us as we discuss hopeful signs of resistance in Mexico, where progressive Claudia Sheinbaum–academic, engineer, Nobel Prize winner–won the Presidency by a landslide and is pushing back against Trump, suggesting that North America  be renamed “América Mexicana” or “Mexican America.”

We’ll talk about Mexico and Colombia’s response to Trump’s deportations, the imperial military bases Trump inherited from Biden and predecessors, and Trump’s outrageous plan to deport 30,000 refugees from US foreign policy to prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Medea Benjamin, the co-founder of CODEPINK, returns from an international conference in Cuba, where Medea spoke with Mariela Castro Espin, daughter of Fidel Castro, about the power of social movements to resist Trump’s unilateral moves to seize and exploit Latin America’s resources for the billionaire class.  Medea, joined in Cuba by Col. Ann Wright, will also share the highlights of the conference on social responsibility and the growing call to return Guantanamo Bay to Cuba.
