COP (UN Climate Conference)

WATCH_NOW!_(2).png

Every year, diplomats, organizers, NGOs, and popular movements converge for a climate conference. COP is supposedly an event for international leaders to come together and tackle the existential threat of the climate crisis. In previous years, the U.S. has ensured that the Pentagon’s status as the world’s largest institutional polluter remains unacknowledged. This year, during COP 30, the U.S. government was not present, yet its influence was still clear, with militarism and imperialism barely mentioned, and the words “fossil fuels” and “minerals” not even mentioned in the final agreements. Yet COP remains a hotspot for discourse shaping the environmental movement and international policy standards. And this year, demands against militarism, for climate reparations, and for indigenous sovereignty were at the forefront of the People’s Conference Toward COP 30. We need to make sure that demilitarization and anti-imperialism are represented at every conference. Use this page to review our previous actions at COP and stay tuned for upcoming actions.
