Washington, DC-- On September 8 at 8:30 am the peace group CODEPINK will rally outside of an event at the American Enterprise Institute featuring former US Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney is scheduled to give a talk opposing the Iran deal, and activists will be there to say that Dick Cheney is a war criminal who shouldn’t be giving foreign policy advice after leading the United States into a disastrous war in Iraq that took the lives of thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi citizens.

“It’s mind boggling that someone who lied to the American public about Iraq and justified torture is now giving advice about Iran to Washington politicos and being taken seriously,” said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin.

CODEPINK will also be protesting Dick Cheney’s support of the CIA’s use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” when he was vice president, including the use of waterboarding which human rights groups consider a form of torture. “Dick Cheney was a disastrous vice president who was responsible for an illegal war and an immoral use of torture,” said CODEPINK co-founder Jodie Evans. “Rather than treating him like a respected elder statesman, we should try him for war crimes.”
