CODEPINK Organizes Week of Action to Support Iran Deal

Washington, DC-- The peace group CODEPINK is organizing a week of actions to support the Iran deal, starting Tuesday, September 8 with a protest of Dick Cheney at the American Enterprise Institute, a press conference in Congress at 11:30am (Capitol Visitor Center, SVC 203-02) and a march at 1pm to Senator Chuck Schumer’s office to protest his opposition the deal (see schedule below).

The press conference speakers will include members of Congress and Sarah Shourd, the journalist and playwright imprisoned for 410 days as a political hostage by the Iranian government.

"I think it's a great deal. Not only does it weaken the hardliner position in Iran and ease tension between our two countries, it could lead to cooperation to combat ISIS,” Shourd said. “I also think that it is good for the Americans that are currently detained there. I think it actually gives the Iranian government less incentive to use hostage taking as a tactic."
