CNN Talking Points

Here is an example of the talking points used for a teach-in action at CNN in LA!

CNN staffers have described the network's coverage of Israel’s genocide on Gaza as “journalistic mal-pratctice” that has resulted in regurgitation of Israeli propaganda and the censoring of Palestinian perspectives.

At least six staffers have come forward as whistleblowers to accuse CNN senior news officials of setting tight restrictions on quoting Hamas and reporting other Palestinian perspectives, while taking Israel’s government statements at face value. Staff also said senior officials interfere in stories to downplay Israeli atrocities, air false Israeli propaganda despite being warned of its inaccuracy, and have created a hostile climate for Arab reporters.

Even CNN’s own renowned international news anchor Christiane Amanpour, has confronted network executives over concerns of double standard and changing copy due a requirement that any Israel news story was to be sent to the Jerusalem desk for approval before publishing.

“There were times where CNN was happy to push hard. But on balance, it’s very clear where we lie, regrettably. And it’s not entirely with the truth,” one whistleblower described.

Who’s making the calls?

  • CNN's daily news decisions are influenced by directives from its headquarters in Atlanta, which has established strict guidelines for coverage. Staff members indicate that these guidelines are set by the editor-in-chief and CEO, Mark Thompson.

Why do we need to call out CNN’s biased reporting?

  • CNN’s biased reporting leads to their ability to manufacture consent for Israel’s genocide amongst the American public. It builds sympathy for Israel while shielding their war crimes and dehumanizes Palestinians.
