Tell your Senators to counter AIPAC’s drive to war with Iran. |
Dear friend,
The pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC is having its annual conference this week and a major point on their agenda is derailing the chances for U.S. diplomacy with Iran
AIPAC is pushing senators to sign onto a letter by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) urging President Biden not to do a simple compliance-for-compliance return to the Iran Nuclear Deal. The letter calls on Biden to continue down Trump’s path of brutal sanctions until an agreement with Iran can be reached that would go far beyond the original deal. Let’s be clear: It was the U.S. that pulled out of the deal and it is the U.S. that should return. Iran will never agree to a more “broad and comprehensive deal.” Such demands would spell the end of a nuclear deal that was functioning and supported by the world community—and would exponentially increase the danger of a war with Iran.
We have to ask Menendez a fundamental question: Why in the world is he — a Democrat and chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — teaming up with the Republican war hawk Lindsey Graham? In 2019, Graham urged then President Trump to take military action against Iran “because sanctions are not enough.” In 2020, he said it would be “terrible” if a DNA test he took were to reveal Iranian heritage. Graham should be censured for racism and war-mongering, and no Democrats should join with him.
Graham and Menendez are hoping to send out their letter by the end of this week, and AIPAC is pushing hard to get senators on board. That’s why we need your help.
The holiday of Nowruz, the Persian new year, begins this Saturday, March 20. It is a time of renewal and gift-giving and a perfect time to show the people of Iran that we care about them by rejoining the deal and lifting sanctions.
