Activists Protest War Hawk John Bolton’s First Day as National Security Advisor
Where: In front of the White House

When: Monday, April 9th, 4-5:30pm

Activists will gather in front of the White House on Monday April 9th to protest John Bolton’s first day on the job as Trump’s National Security Advisor. Bolton, a key proponent and supporter of the Iraq war, calls for the bombing of North Korea and overthrowing the Iranian government.

Speakers will include Ray McGovern, retired CIA analyst, CODEPINK co-founder and author of Inside Iran, Medea Benjamin, and Jamal Adbi, Vice President for Policy with the National Iranian American Council (NIAC).

Visuals will include cordoning area with Caution Tape and signs reading: Danger: War Hawk in White House, and people in Hazmat suits.

Sponsored by CODEPINK, World beyond War, Popular Resistance, and Just Foreign Policy

“Bolton is an unhinged advocate for waging World War III. He has explicitly called for bombing Iran and has suggested the U.S. engage in nuclear first strikes in North Korea," says Trita Parsi, President of the National Iranian American Council. "Bolton’s first order of business will be to convince Trump to exit the Iran nuclear deal and lay the groundwork for the war he has urged over the past decade."

"Bolton, known as one of the 'crazies' that got us into the disastrous Iraq war, will be the bully coming to the China shop in the West Wing. Sadly, 'crazy' seems to have become the new normal in Washington, with warmongers and regime-changers like Bolton in charge, people who have not served a day in uniform and have no direct experience of war other than starting them," says former CIA analyst Ray McGovern. "Even if Bolton’s tenure turns out to be short-lived, the crucial months ahead will provide Bolton with ample opportunity to wreak havoc."

"The hawk of all hawks is now ominously perched at the White House. Bolton advocates a foreign policy that exaggerates threats, belittles diplomacy, shows contempt for international institutions and is quick to use violence," says CODEPINK codirector Medea Benjamin. "His appointment as National Security Advisor is a grave threat to global security."
