Dear Maikelys and family,
From the bottom of our hearts, we want to say: welcome home, Maikelys.
Your strength, your love, and your refusal to give up have moved us deeply. You have endured what no family should ever face: forced separation, cruelty, and uncertainty. And while Maikelys is finally home, we know your family is still not whole. Maiker remains unjustly imprisoned in El Salvador, and that is a grave injustice we will not ignore.
This reunion came after months of anguish, but also after a sea of collective love and action. Your courage inspired thousands around the world to speak out, organize, and demand justice. Because of your fight, and the voices that joined with yours, Maikelys is back in your arms.
While it was the U.S. government that tore your family apart, the vast majority of the people of the U.S. believe that love must be stronger than borders, that no child should ever be taken from their family, and that no government should profit from pain. We are ashamed of what was done in our name and we are committed to fighting the systems that did this to you: U.S. sanctions, deportations, prisons, and the policies that criminalize migration and separate families.
Maikelys is home but until Maiker is free and no family has to endure what you have, we will not stop.
We hold your family in our hearts. Thank you for your resilience. Thank you for your trust. And thank you for reminding the world what justice really looks like.
