Marjan Shallal is a mental health counselor in Washington, DC, and an active member of the capitol’s cultural, political, and philanthropic community. She serves on the CODEPINK Board of Directors. She and her husband Andy Shallal are co-owners of Busboys and Poets, a chain of restaurants that also creates a space for art, culture, and politics to intentionally collide. After being appointed by Mayor Bowser in 2015, Marjan served two terms on the DC Humanities Council and received the council’s 2019 Distinguished Services to the Humanities Award. She has also served as a mayoral appointee on the DC Board of Social Work since 2021. In addition, Marjan has been an advisor to CODEPINK’s Peace with Iran program since 2015 and participated in the 2009 Gaza Freedom March.
