Join CODEPINK Detroit at General Baker Institute Thursday, October 8th at 5PM for a special teach-in titled "Iran: The Most Misunderstood & Demonized Country," featuring guest speaker Ismail Noor.
At a time when Iran is constantly in the news, it can be overwhelming to understand what’s really happening beyond the headlines. This teach-in aims to create a space for people at any level of understanding to learn Iran’s history, to put the current war and ongoing U.S.-Iranian conflict into historical context, and to leave with a deeper understanding of what we’re seeing in the news.
Ismail Noor was born in Palestine in 1949. He was forced into exile at the age of 17 and embarked on a refugee's journey before settling in Michigan in 1977. Dr. Noor earned his PhD degree in Sociology from Michigan State University and worked for the Children’s Trust Fund, for the prevention of child abuse and neglect, for 15 years. Throughout his academic and professional career, Ismail has been an active student and community member and an advocate for human rights and justice for Palestine.
