The World Stands with Cuba & Palestine - Chicago

For_31_Years_the_world_has_voted_at_the_UN_to_end_the_blockade_on_Cuba._On_this_day_of_the_year’s_vote__show_Biden_and_Harris_we_stand_with_Cuba!.png

On October 30, 2024 Cuba will submit a resolution to the UN General Assembly to lift the US embargo for the 32nd time. The first time the resolution was submitted it was supported by 59 countries, today the number of states voting for its adoption has grown to 187. For the last several years only two countries have opposed the resolution, the United States and Israel. These same countries are conducting a genocide of the Palestinian population in Gaza. Gaza, which has been under siege much like Cuba since 2007.

The situation in Cuba has become increasingly dire since the Trump administration added Cuba to the State Sponsor of Terrorism List (SSOT), a designation that the Biden administration upheld. The SSOT allows the US government to place secondary sanctions on countries that engage in trade with Cuba. So if a ship docks in Cuba, they can't dock in the US harbors for at least 6 months. This has resulted in critical commodities like medical equipment becoming very difficult to come by in Cuba.

Currently there is a widespread power outage that is a direct result of the criminal U.S. blockade. Despite efforts to repair power plants & boost solar energy, a quick fix remains out of reach as these solutions take time and most importantly the required finances & equipment are precisely being blocked by the U.S. government sanctions. What is at the root of this crisis? Over 60 years of blockade intended to suffocate the Cuban people through hunger and desperation in order to provoke the overthrow of the Cuban government. This has meant the forced decay of essential services from schools and hospitals to transportation.

The U.S. government, fully complicit in the genocide against Palestinians, is also perpetuating a genocidal war against Cuba, continuing decades of slow extermination through a brutal blockade and the designation of Cuba as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.
