Black Friday: There are better ways to spend today

Yesterday, we were expected to forget (we didn’t) Thanksgiving’s horrific history of white settler-colonialism, land theft, and genocide.  Today, we are expected to mindlessly purchase ourselves into a capitalist coma.

“Black” Friday doesn’t have to be this way — let’s turn it PINK!  We can refuse to purchase toy soldiers, items made in illegal Israeli settlements, and items from companies like Walmart and Amazon which abuse their workers.  Check out these ten ways to take your life back from the war economy and invest in peace today.

This holiday season, we are paying special attention to number 6, which reminds us to not buy war crimes. We’re doubling down on our ask to Lush cosmetics to close their stores in bloody repressive Saudi Arabia and so from today through New Year’s eve, we’re hosting another round of protests outside of Lush stores. We already have protests planned in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DCNYC, and Chicago. We have banners, flyers, and holiday carols such as I’m Dreaming of Peace in Yemen (to the tune of White Christmas), War Crimes, War Crimes, War Crimes  (to the tune of I Have a Little Dreidel) for the protests. Check out our supplies for Lush actions here and sign up here, or email Raegan for support to plan your own Lush out of Saudi holiday protest in your city.

The people of Bolivia, Chile, Palestine, Lebanon, and more are more committed than ever to resisting the attacks on their rights, freedoms, resources, culture, and safety and we are continuing to do our part by getting our representatives, cities, states, universities, churches, and pension funds to divest from war and cultivate peace. Your support helps and through giving Tuesday all donations will be doubled thanks to a generous donor. Can you give:
