Yesterday, we were expected to forget (we didn’t) Thanksgiving’s horrific history of white settler-colonialism, land theft, and genocide. Today, we are expected to mindlessly purchase ourselves into a capitalist coma.
“Black” Friday doesn’t have to be this way — let’s turn it PINK! We can refuse to purchase toy soldiers, items made in illegal Israeli settlements, and items from companies like Walmart and Amazon which abuse their workers. This holiday season, we are paying special attention to number 6, which reminds us to not buy war crimes. We’re doubling down on our ask to Lush cosmetics to close their stores in bloody repressive Saudi Arabia and so from today through New Year’s eve, we’re hosting another round of protests outside of Lush stores. We already have protests planned in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, NYC, and Chicago. We have banners, flyers, and holiday carols such as I’m Dreaming of Peace in Yemen (to the tune of White Christmas), War Crimes, War Crimes, War Crimes (to the tune of I Have a Little Dreidel) for the protests.
