Don’t be a tool for war, be a tool for peace instead.

World Journal, the largest Chinese-language publication in North America, is delegitimizing Chinese-Americans who exercised their First Amendment right to protest a meeting between Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. After the protest last Wednesday, World Journal reported that China paid Chinese-Americans to show up and protest the inflammatory meeting on Friday. In response, on Friday, Attorney David Ewing delivered a letter to World Journal on behalf of a number of protestors to demand retraction of the story and an apology.
World Journal should recognize that peace-loving Chinese-Americans have the agency to speak their mind and against waging war on their motherland. The article puts the Chinese-American community at great risk by disparaging community members and making them targets of xenophobic hate.
We hope the World Journal stops being a tool for war and issues an apology to the protesters.
