One year ago, on October 31, 2019, the Israeli military arrested Palestinian feminist, lawmaker, and political prisoners’ advocate Khalida Jarrar and placed her under administrative detention. Khalida is continuing to languish in prison without charge or trial on the basis of secret evidence. — Jarrar is one of 5,500 Palestinian political prisoners being held under Israel’s abusive administrative detention.
Khalida is associated with the left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). She has been arrested numerous times by Israel, including in 2015 and 2017, when she spent 20 months imprisoned under administrative detention, without charge or trial. Khalida was arrested again on October 31, 2019, when more than Israeli 70 soldiers in 12 military vehicles surrounded her home. While in prison, Khalida plays a leading role in supporting the education and empowerment of minor imprisoned girls, organizing classes on human rights and to help them prepare for high school examinations when prison authority deny instructors for the girls.
Join Ariel Gold for a conversation with Khalida's daughter Yafa Jarrar, a Palestinian-Canadian lawyer and activist. Yafa will talk about her mother's work for freedom and justice, her mother's detention, and the work to #FreeKhalida.
