“$521 billion in base military spending and nearly $64 billion more in overseas contingency funds, including about $5 billion for the current fight in Iraq and Syria” -Military Times

Dear Activist,

Last week the House of Representatives voted, 300-119, to pass  the FY15 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a $585 billion early holiday present to weapons manufacturers, surveillance contractors (the NSA is funded through the “defense” bill), killer drones makers -- the military-industrial-spying complex. And we have just learned that this NDAA will also hand over the Tonto National Forest in Arizona, sacred to the Apache people, to Resolution Copper, a subsidiary of the notorious Autralian-English mining company Rio Tinto. How does that “defend” our national security?!

This week, the Democrat-controlled Senate will vote on its version of the FY 2015 NDAA. Although this annual bill is presented as “paying our troops”, in fact benefits to the lowest paid troops will be cut. Call your rep and senators now to urge a NO vote: 202-224-3121.

Here’s the context in which this Pentagon funding bill is being voted on: The US bombing of Syria and Iraq, and the training of “vetted” Syrian rebel fighters, who may be fighting with ISIL tomorrow, already over $1 billion and counting. The longest-ever US war in a foreign country, Afghanistan, which President Obama just secretly extended, not ended. The NDAA funds generals playing golf, military bands marching, and enormous staffs for Pentagon brass. It keeps the lights on at Gitmo's infamous torture facility.

One hundred and nineteen members of Congress, including a few Republicans, found the courage to vote NO on this terrible bill. The Senate could stop it with a majority no vote.

It’s YOUR tax money. Call your senators at 202-224-3121 to say: Vote NO on the NDAA. Email reports on your calls to [email protected].

Money for jobs and education, not for wars and occupation,

PS: TOMORROW, December 9, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing on a request for a NEW Authorization to Use Military Force against Syria and Iraq, and Secretary of State John Kerry will be the star witness. Some pink-clad folks may be there to supplement this crucial hearing. End endless wars funded by our tax dollars!
