#TrickOrTreat4UNRWA!

This Halloween, help kids help kids in Palestine by participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNRWA.

The ongoing genocide in Gaza has been devastating for Palestinian youth. Children have been out of school for over a year. They face food shortages, water shortages, high risks of infection, and constant displacement by Israeli attacks. An entire generation faces long term physical and emotional trauma from these crimes.

UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, is the largest humanitarian aid organization operating in Gaza, and is the only one capable of meeting the dire scale of need Palestinian children and families are facing right now. They provide education, healthcare, financial support, and all crucial emergency assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.

For years, the U.S. was UNRWA’s biggest donor. Early this year, after Israeli officials levied unproven allegations against 12 UNRWA employees, the United States and nine other countries suspended their funding to UNRWA, putting hundreds of millions of dollars — over half of UNRWA’s budget — in limbo. Since then, every country besides the U.S. has resumed funding UNRWA. Even still, without U.S. support, UNRWA needs extra funds now more than ever.

In past years, many of us at CODEPINK fondly remember participating in Trick or Treat for UNICEF to raise funds for kids around the world. In that same spirit, this year we're inviting kids to Trick or Treat for UNRWA to support kids in Palestine and raise awareness about their struggle.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Download and print out our Trick or Treat for UNRWA Flyer. You can present the QR code for people to donate, or cut out and attach the design to a box or jar to collect change!
  2. Dress up in your best costume.
  3. When going door to door, just like you may have done for UNICEF in the past, kids can say “Trick or treat for UNRWA!” and invite adults to scan the QR code on the flyer. You can also collect cash or change and donate the money electronically later.
    • Tips:
      • Be friendly, peaceful, and disarming when approaching your neighbors.
      • Let the kids lead! Prepare kids to explain what UNRWA is and why they’re fundraising for it.
      • Regardless of if people donate, always say thank you and wish them a happy Halloween!
  4. Share photos and videos online with #TrickOrTreat4UNRWA to encourage others to do the same! Tag @codepinkalert on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok or @codepink on Twitter. Share the donation link on your post as well to encourage others to donate!

By participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNRWA, you and your children can make a tangible difference in the lives of Palestinian children, teaching valuable lessons about empathy, community service, and the power of small actions to create significant change. Thank you for your support and participation! All donations collected will be sent to UNRWA USA.
